St Joseph Prayer Cards
In the wake of significant technological advancements in the late-nineteenth century, which saw the industrialization of printing and the development of religious artworks intended for mass production, the circulation of innumerable ‘holy cards’ has continued ever since—serving to colour, and give expression to, the popular piety of successive generations. Invariably depicted with either Jesus or Mary, and more often than not, as watching over them both, such images of St Joseph are remembered by many with great fondness.
